Sabrina Ergun

I obtained my PhD from Stanford Biochemistry in the lab of Dr. Lingyin Li. In my graduate work, I used structural and biochemical techniques to investigate the molecular mechanism of the STING pathway, a key pathway in innate immune signaling and anti-cancer defense.

Looking to use my biochemical expertise in a novel setting, I joined the Jonikas lab in the Spring of 2022. My goal is to study the biogenesis and regulation of the pyrenoid, an algal organelle responsible for the facilitation of efficient photosynthesis and carbon fixation. My hope is that this basic research will someday have a positive effect on global food production and atmospheric carbon levels.

While not working in lab, I enjoy horseback riding, reading, gazing adoringly at my pet rabbit, hiking, ceramics, and vegan cooking.
